FIFA’s CONMEBOL (South America Region) and CONCACAF (North and Central America Region) came together to organize a 16-team tournament in celebration of the cup’s 100th anniversary, 1916 – 2016. The tournament was held from June 3 to June 27, with the final taking place at Metlife Stadium between Argentina and Chile. Chile came out victorious, but it took 90 plus minutes, two 15-minute halves, and a full round of penalty kicks (4-2).
